Our Story

Bethany Reformation Church was born in 1996 when a group of passionate young people in Addis Ababa began asking honest questions about faith. Coming from the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, they hungered for a deeper understanding of salvation, baptism, the true nature of Christian community, and the authority of Scripture.

They started meeting in homes and villages—reading the Bible together, praying with intensity, and supporting one another through spiritual renewal. Their honest pursuit of Christ eventually led to difficult conversations and, in many cases, rejection from their former community. Yet God used those hard seasons to forge something beautiful: a new fellowship of committed disciples.

Today, our church stands as a living reminder of the early Anabaptist movement of the 16th century—ordinary believers gathering around the Word of God, choosing discipleship over tradition, and building a church shaped by mutual accountability and radical obedience to Jesus.

Scripture as our final authority

Community marked by shared life and accountability

Discipleship that transforms character and conduct

Service that demonstrates Christ’s love in practical ways

We are not a large institution—we are a family
on mission, deeply rooted in Ethiopia
and excited to connect with believers around the world
who share our passion for
Jesus-centered living.

Our Teaching

We are a growing congregation of approximately 100–150 members, with a strong core of young adults who are hungry for authentic faith. Our life together revolves around four core values:
